On 7 May 2025, the SME Chamber hosted the ARESOME Stakeholders’ Event, welcoming members to a focused exchange on some of the most pressing issues shaping today’s world of work: Platform Work, Work-Life Balance, and the Right to Disconnect.
The event unfolded across three thematic e-workshops:
Platform Work – Discussions shed light on the rapid expansion of platform-based jobs in Malta and across the EU. Topics included worker classification, income security, and access to social protection, supported by real case studies from food delivery, ride-hailing, and online freelancing.
Work-Life Balance – Participants examined the effects of remote and hybrid working models. The session explored how businesses can balance flexibility and productivity, highlighting good practices such as flexible scheduling and wellbeing initiatives.
Risks & the Right to Disconnect – This workshop tackled challenges such as digital fatigue, blurred personal-professional boundaries, and stress from constant connectivity. Pilot measures, including email curfews, system shutdowns, and awareness campaigns, were discussed as potential solutions.
The event concluded with a roundtable dialogue, where participants agreed on the need for:
Clearer legislation around platform work,
Stronger guidelines for SMEs to implement flexible work policies, and
A national dialogue on practical ways to enforce the right to disconnect without harming competitiveness.
This stakeholder gathering reinforced the Chamber’s role in shaping future-oriented policies while providing SMEs with actionable insights to navigate evolving workplace realities.
