Fi Press Conference li saret illum fl-ufficini tal-GRTU, il-mexxejja tal-GRTU u l-Kumitat tal-Burdnara (cargo haulers) membri tal-GRTU, spjegaw il-posizzjoni tal-burdnara wara li l-Chairman tal-Malta Maritime Authority habbar li kien ser jibdel l-kriterji li fuqhom huma mhaddma l-licenzji tal-Burdnara.

Fi Press Conference li saret illum fl-ufficini tal-GRTU, il-mexxejja tal-GRTU u l-Kumitat tal-Burdnara (cargo haulers) membri tal-GRTU, spjegaw il-posizzjoni tal-burdnara wara li l-Chairman tal-Malta Maritime Authority habbar li kien ser jibdel l-kriterji li fuqhom huma mhaddma l-licenzji tal-Burdnara.

Il-GRTU spjegat li s-sistema li hi mhaddma illum tilhaqq il-kriterji tal-Unjoni Ewropea u ma tikkostitwixxiex la monopolju fil-garr tal-merkanzija u lanqas “closed shop” ghan-negozjanti li jridu juzaw mezzi taghhom stess u mhux tal-Burdnara. Il-GRTU sostniet ukoll li t-tariffi li jiccargjaw il-Burdnara huma kompettitivi u ma jezisti ebda “cartel” fejn jidhol hlas lill-Burdnara li jgorru l-merkanzija generali. Barra minn dan kull burdnara jista’ jhaddem vetturi u ngenji kemm irid biex tkun sodisfatta d-domanda kollha ghal garr ta’ merkanzija.

In-numru li hu limitat hu dak tal-operaturi professjonali li ghandhom il-pass specjali li johorgu u jdahhlu l-merkanzija mill-portijiet Maltin. Il-GRTU spjegat li dak li jithaddem f’Malta sar bi ftehiem approvat mill-Unjoni Ewropea u mill-Kabinett tal-Ministri u hu fil-kompitu tal-gvern Malti li jhaddem il-kriterji mifthema bla indhil ta’ hadd. Il-Malta Maritime Authority ma tistax taqbad u tibdel dak li gie miftiehem u annunzjat pubblikament mill-gvern qabel ir-referendum ghad-dhul fl-Unjoni Ewropea u l-obligu tal-MMA hu li thaddem dawk il-kriterji u tonorha dawk l-obligazzjonijiet li imponilha l-Kabinett tal-Ministri.

Zewg Ministri tal-Gvern, l-Onorevoli John Dalli – ex-Ministru tal-Finanzi u l-Onorevoli Censu Galea ex-Ministru ta’ Trasport u Portijiet, flimkien ma’ Dr. Simon Busuttil bhala rapprezentat tat-team ta’ Negozjaturi ta’ Malta ghas-shubija fl-Unjoni Ewropea, is-Sur David Sutton – Deputy Chief Officer tal-ADT u s-Sur Charles Demicoli – Chairman tal-ADT u s-Sur John Mifsud – Direttur Generali tad-Dwana kienu spjegaw dan kollu lill-Burdnara u lill-impjegati taghhom fl-laqgha msejha apposta ghalihom qabel ir-referendum fejn taghhom id-dettalji tal-arrangamenti mifthema u l-operaturi u l-impjegati taghhom kienu gew assigurati li hobzhom u l-investiment taghhom kien garantiti.

Il-GRTU illum ghalhekk issa trid li l-gvern jerga’ jiddikjara li dak li ftiehem dwaru qabel ir-referendum issa ma imbidilx. Il-Burdnara migbura f’Laqgha Generali Straordinarja msejha mill-GRTU ilbierah u li saret fis-Sala Markiz Scicluna, fit-Trade Fair Grounds, Naxxar, qablu li ghalissa ma jiehdu l-ebda azzjoni li b’xi mod tista’ twegga’ jew tostakola lil xi hadd. Dan ghaliex il-burdnara qed jistennew li l-gvern permezz tal-Ministru Censu Galea jirrijaferma l-posizzjoni tieghu kif stabbilita qabel ir-referendum. Dan hu mistenni li jsir fl-laqgha li l-kumitat tal-burdnara ser ikollu mal-Ministru Censu Galea fl-laqgha msejha apposta nhar il-gimgha filghodu wara li l-GRTU irreferiet din il-kwistjoni lill-Prim Ministru.

Il-Burdnara wkoll qed jilmentaw li b’mod ingust l-operaturi l-godda tal-Port il-Kbir qabdu u qatghu x-xoghol li l-Burdnara ghal-ghexiren ta’ snin kienu jaghmlu fuq il-mollijiet tal-Port il-Kbir b’kompetizjoni bejniethom b’rizultat li illum dan ix-xoghol ser isir minn monopolju bla ebda trahhis ta’ tarriffi u b’telf ta’ eluf kbar ta’ liri ta’ apparat mixtri u mhaddem mill-burdnara u li issa ser jintrema. Dan it-telf ta’ xoghol qed igieghel lill-Burdnara jillicenzjaw numru ta’ haddiema esperti f’dan ix-xoghol u l-gvern waqt li indokra l-interessi ta’ haddiehor m’ghamel xejn biex jiddifendi l-impjieg u l-investiment taghhom u tan-nies taghhom.

Il-Burdnara ser jergghu jiltaqghu l-gimgha filghaxija biex jiddeciedu fuq dak li jirrapurtawlhom il-Kumitat taghhom wara l-laqgha mal-Ministru Galea.
