Online Information Session – Changes to the Employment of Third-Country Nationals

Following the recent Labour Migration Policy, on the changes when coming to employ third country nationals and the single work permit application process, we are pleased to invite you to an information session on Malta’s Labour Migration Policy, organised by the SME Chamber in collaboration with the Ministry for Home Affairs, Security, and Employment. This session aims to provide clarity on recent policy changes and their implications for your business operations.

The main changes being proposed include (amongst others):

•⁠  ⁠Updates to the renewal period and changes to the fees
•⁠  ⁠The establishment of a high-risk country list for employment applications
•⁠  Minimum requirements for employing third-country nationals (TCNs), such as employing a specific number of Maltese/EU nationals prior
•⁠  ⁠Integration courses for TCNs prior to their arrival in Malta.

Skills Pass for employees in the Tourism Industry Launched

The Ministry for Tourism and ITS have today launched the new Skills Pass System.

The goal of the skills pass is to raise the bar for employees working in the tourism industry by ensuring a basic level of skills.

The pass will be needed for all new TCN employees for which an application for a work permit is being launched.

The reforms of the skills pass system includes:

  • Minimum entry level of skills to work in Malta
  • Online course and assessment system at a fee
  • Ability to get renewal of permit beyond one year
  • Temporary pass for apprentices and students working during the summer months

Information Session on how you may achieve energy and water savings? (Pharmacies)

The Energy and Water Agency with the support of the Chamber of SMEs has in the past months conducted Energy and Water Awareness visits in a number of Pharmacies.  The ultimate goal of these visits was to produce recommendations and educate the responsible persons at these enterprises in reducing energy consumption, lower related operational costs and contribute to a more environmentally sustainable facility.

To present the findings an online meeting is being held where officers of the Energy and Water Agency and Malta Enterprise will explain the ‘recommendations’ and associated schemes how their implementation can be supported
